Mass Evacuation Exercise Preparatory Meetings
The meetings that took place in Malta on the 21st and 22nd of February had the ultimate goal of fine-tuning the overall preparation of the Mass Evacuation Exercise to be held within the scope of the PICASSO project, during the Maltese Presidency of the Council. The meetings touched upon the most relevant matters related with the organisation of the exercise and included a visit to the Port of La Valletta – the venue.
The meeting gathered the Activity 2 leader (Transport Malta), the partners involved in sub-activity 2.2 (Port of Dover and Fundación ValenciaPort) and the project coordinator (SASEMAR) and co-coordinator (Magellan).
The Mass Evacuation Exercise will consist of a simulation of an incident starting at sea and leading to an evacuation to a limited extent at sea and then complete evacuation in the port from the ship’s side. The ultimate goal is for it to be concluded in the port so as to test the land emergency response. After the evacuation, passengers and crew will be taken across the harbour to a triage area, where the new tools as well as the port’s, health and emergency plans will be tested.
